It Will Do You Well

To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering, one must not love. But then, one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer; not to love is to suffer; to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be happy, one must love or love to suffer or suffer from too much happiness.

Yes indeed. Can we put away suffering from Love? Never. If you love, you must suffer. And if you suffer, you must love. The best situation ever? Is when you love to love and love to suffer. Then you will never mind loving because you don’t mind suffering.

That’s too much “love” and “suffer”. Ask me: “Can we move on?” My answer would be: “OK, let us move on.”

I’m sure most of you are directly linking love to one of your old sad breakups. Why! Why should you only think of it this way? Love can be related to many other things.

You might love to spend Christmases in Paris. New Years in Manhattan. And Ramadans in Mecca.

I love cinematography and I might suffer one day for not making it into its world.

Javier Bardem in the film Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside, by Alejandro Ameñabar) loved the idea of flying over the hills and toward the beach but suffered from never being able to do it. Not just because it is inhuman to fly but because he was paralyzed from the neck down.

I always talk about dreams. Remember? Some dreams walk beside us all our lives, others stop and let us pass them and the rests become reality. Suffer comes when dreams walk beside us. Suffer doesn’t come when a dream fails. You will always accept the truth. Whether you like it or not. It should be either black or white. But not grey.

I hate grey. Except for grey winter days when I’m sitting at home and watching a Claude Lelouch film. That would be very white for me.

John Nash lived all his life with some people only he could see. Yes. He was schizophrenic. Some others live with their dreams. I would call them schizophrenic as well.

Don’t let your dreams hunt you. If they want to keep on walking beside you and never open their arms wide for you, give them a good but kick. There is so much room for so many dreams out there.

Yves LaRock’s song Rise Up says:

My dream is to fly
Over the rainbow so high

And that’s a dream. Why not!

Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Watch your mothers, and see them smile. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.

The Greek philosopher Epicurus (BC 341 – 270) once said:

Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.

And keep on hoping.

It will do you well.

INT. OFFICE - MORNING

FADE IN:

Trust me. It's paradise.

This is where the hungry come to feed. For mine is a generation that circles the globe and searches for something we haven't tried before. So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome. Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It's probably worth it.

You hope, and you dream. But you never believe that something is going to happen for you. Not like it does in the movies. And when it actually does, you want it to feel different: more visceral. More real. I was waiting for it to hit me, but it just wouldn't happen.

My dear OtherEnders,

You’ll have to excuse me. I know. It’s been a while. My writing efforts have taken me somewhere else. Somewhere you might enjoy in the future.

Yes, maybe. And maybe not. But you’ll never know unless you try. I believe I mentioned to you once that I’m passionate about the world of cinema.

OK. I’m lying. I mentioned it to you so many times. But it really feels like it was just once. Because each time I speak about it, it feels like the first time. I will never get bored. You’ll have to excuse me.

The title is “to be announced at a later stage” and is written by “Dany Bachir”. It’s a short movie to be directed by a dear friend of mine “Marcel Ghosn” and produced by both of us.

Shooting location? Dubai.
Movie type? Short. Approximately 15 minutes.
Camera? 36 mm motion picture camera.
Shooting date? Sometime next month.
Release date? Hopefully end of this year.
Purpose? Passion and love.
Real purpose? Send it to film festivals and get selected.
Result? Win.
Later result? Become known and reputed.
Then? Produce other films.
Later result? Become a screenwriter and filmmaker.

It feels good to build yourself a critical path. A road map you can work upon and adjust wherever you leap. Try it. Whatever your dreams are. It will help you have a better vision of your vision and make your dreams seem more realistic. You start realizing that there is a path to achieving your dreams. Whether tough or easy, there is a path. It’s up to you to overcome the different stages. Whether you’re passionate enough or not.

But please. Don’t get me wrong. I'm not that aggressive. I still consider myself a romantic. Or at least I like the idea of being considered one. I wouldn’t mind not achieving my dreams for keeping the love I share with my Family and Friends and search for others out there. Some OtherEnders.

On my judgment day, I wouldn’t mind be laying on my death bed and my last words to be:

I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough.

And then.

FADE OUT:

THE END

You're ...

Again. It’s a birthday.

Yes. Another special one.

One of those that make you happy. That make you smile. It comes to the brains and jumps straight to the heart. A heart that enjoys beauty and sunshine.

Instead of accepting gifts, she's always offering me the gift of a lifetime.

Just by being there.

I have already mentioned her in one of my previous articles, Her Million Dollar Smile. And since then, she has maintained that smile, yet made it even more touching. A smile that makes you feel weird if you miss it for a single day.

She smiles. And the world smiles at her. The world just can’t help it. It’s uncontrollable.

Something out of this world.

If you want to see God smiling down at you, watch her smile. As simple as that. She preaches peace and love.

Just by being there.

A birthday which the world celebrates. Huge celebrations for the simple fact that there are people like her around. Making you feel better about yourselves and about everything around you.

A real proof that love and friendship still exist. Indeed they exist.

Having her around is like seeing sunrise in the morning and sunset in the evening. And every beauty in between.

Yes. She makes sure you never miss them.

Just by being there.

What can a man wish a woman on her birthday? What can I wish her on her birthday? All the messages you can find on greeting cards. Put together. They’ll make a long list. I just hope I could have all the blank papers of the world. I would have written on them.

And still, you deserve more.

I might be cold sometimes. But I think I know how to love and respect. And still, this is the least I could do for you. Show you appreciation.

Please don’t do more. Just make me feel like I do when I’m with you.

Just by being there.

Life has taken away some people I admired, but has given me others. Others that see. Others that seek the other end of sunrise. Others that stand my bad moods. Others who accept me for what I am.

And you’re one of them.

My dearest Tracy,

I just hope I will be blessed with many more years on this planet just to wish you more happy birthdays. And if not, I will still find a way to do it from Heaven. Don't worry.

I wish you more and more years, decades and even centuries to come. Those that make you grow old and become more and more beautiful. Those that make you enjoy a happy life where so many experiences are to be experienced, many sights are to be seen and many feelings are to be felt.

If there’s anything to say, if there’s anything to do, if there’s any other way, I’ll do anything to be there for you.

People die around the world, but others live. Others make it up because they’re worth millions.

And you’re definitely worth millions.

Happy Birthday to you and may you always be surrounded by your Family, loved ones and … who knows.

You're my OtherEnder and my Muse.

You're ... the Tracy Askar
